SSME Slot Car Regulations

To be eligible for competition points, cars must comply with these regulations.

 

If it's not mentioned or allowed here, then it's not allowed.


Cars not complying with these reg's may compete at the discretion of the Race Director, but will not be eligible for competition points.

1 - Body must cover the entire chassis and guide.
2 - No parts other than rear wheels may protrude.
3 - The bodies must not be cut above the manufacturer's cut line. (Including rear of body)
4 - Bodies must be painted to appear opaque with the exception of windows, which must be left clear.
5 - Bodies must display at least three identical racing numbers. Hand written numbers are not acceptable.
6 - Front wheel arches must also be left clear or cut out so that front wheels are clearly visible.
7 - Bodies may be reinforced with tape and/or other suitable materials.
8 - No additional air dams or spoilers are allowed.
9 - Interiors are required and must be painted in a minimum of three colours so as to maintain an appearance of realism and be of a correct scale and size to cover the entire inside of the car.
10 - Interior must include a 3 dimensional driver of the correct scale and appearance, and must include head, shoulders, arms with hands and a steering wheel. Extra details are desirable for realism.

 

Chassis
1 - Any commercially available 4" pressed steel Group 10, Flexi type chassis. No aluminium components allowed.
2 - No chassis modifications except for a motor and/or axle brace made from piano wire/brass tube or a Slick 7 EDM equivalent.
3 - The front axle may be soldered in place at the pillow blocks and/or replaced with .062" piano wire.
4 - Motor mounting tabs must be retained; oilite recess may be enlarged to allow improved gear mesh.
5 - Front wheel retainers may be soldered in place.
6 - Tape may be used to aid chassis performance.
7 -

“Shaker tubes” may not be used to mount the body.

 

Motor
1 - JK Falcon 7 motor JK-30207 only.
2 - No motor tampering is allowed.
3 -

Removal of plating to facilitate soldering motor in position is OK.

 

Guide & Leadwire

 

1 - Only one guide per car.
2 - Guide clips may be used.
3 - Any lead wire may be used.

 

Gears

Any commercially available un-modified gears.

Ratio must be 3:1, unless otherwise nominated by track owner.

 

Wheels &

Tyres

 

Front - minimum diameter 1/2" aluminium replacement wheels with “O” ring tyres.

Rears - any 3/32" commercially available.

No tyre "Goo" or any other additive is to be used at any time on the tyres to enhance traction.

Cleaning of tyres is permitted, using lighter fluid, 'Shellex', 'WD40', or equiv.

 

Axles

Front - Max. diameter 1/16” piano wire or equiv.

Rear - 3/32" or 1/8" solid steel only.

 

Bearings

Front - na

Rear - Oilites only. May be soldered or glued in place.

 

Widths & Clearance

Max Width - 85mm at rear wheels, and any other part of the car.

Minimum Track Clearance - 1.2mm (0.047").
